Plotting and Planning

Last night, half way home from work, on the freeway, Jeb suddenly said, “Uh-oh.”

That’s never a good sign. The dashboard was dinging and informing us that we were nearly out of coolant and had better stop soon. Yikes. We had to maneuver through heavy traffic and then off the Bothell exit to a gas station, by which time my Tiger Kitten was really steaming to beat the band.

The Quicky Mart guy offered assistance, but there was really nothing for it but to call a tow truck as the radiator hose was split.

Yes, it was a LONG evening, but it wasn’t the tow truck driver’s fault. He got there with admirable speed. It was just, you know, getting to the garage and getting a taxi from there to home, all after a Monday Part II, summarily called “Tuesday” by most folks. Luckily, we still have Jeb’s car to use while Tiger Kitten is being doctored up.

This morning, it was pouring down rain though and it made me smile. This is the first hard rain we’ve had all summer. My pumpkins will be delighted, thirsty as they’ve been. It was also quite dark out… So can you guess what sort of mood that put me in?

No?

How about now?

YES!!!!!  I’m feeling Halloweenie!  Or maybe witchy or something… in a GOOD way, in case you suffer any confusion over that.

The hard rain that marks the end of summer is always the beginning of Autumn as far as I’m concerned.  Halloween is only TWO months away!  I must plot and plan for it now!

There will be a party we might go to in Everett on October 26th, and one in Seattle on November 1st.

Meanwhile, I think it would be fun to take a train ride to Portland to go on the spooky Shanghai Underground tour there.  We can also go on some spooky tours at Fort Casey, Port Townsend, and various tours in Seattle.

On Halloween proper, we will have the usual family gathering at home and see all the cute little trick-or-treaters that stop by.  But maybe on Saturday October 19th, or Friday the 25th, or Saturday November 2nd, we will have out real party.  My vote is on the 19th, since that will be the only full moon night in that range, and I’m partial to fully moon outdoor parties, well, full moons any time I can get them.

Oh doy…  Almost forgot!  Aki Con is on Halloween weekend too!  Oh I am going to be SUCH a busy girl!

Debating on a menu…  Thinking maybe crock-pot Beef Bouginon, zucchini bread, creamy pumpkin did with ginger snaps, carmel filled green apple wedges, jalapeno poppers (if I can talk my sister into making them, chocolate scarab balls, gummy worms, the usual green punch, and a hot mixture of apple cider and samurai chai.  I badly want to make pumpkin cheese cake as well but only if there will be enough people to appreciate it or if I can make it in smaller individual molds, making using a pumpkin faced cupcake mold?

Of course there will be costumes.  Also, good music and dancing on the back patio with lanterns lit as well as a pinata and some kid games IF the weather will cooperate this time.  I’m hoping it will.  I’d love for there to be some spooky poetry reading or tale telling and/or pendulum to.  Much of this will probably not work out right, but I do keep trying.

This weekend, I have only a few little goals: painting our door purple (YAY!!!!), cleaning and redecorating my aquarium, maybe bringing in some fall decorations, and definitely making zucchini bread.

What are plots and plans for this weekend and the beautiful fall season?  Any suggestions for me?  Make ’em good!  I do loves a well-turned suggestion!

I'm an ex-Pentacostal, ex-Muslim, ecclectic Agnostic with slightly Wiccan leanings. I am not affiliated with any organized religion or political platform, but I do believe in magic and all things wise and wonderful. I work as an admin in a calibration lab. I've published 2 books so far this year: Lost in Foreign Passions: Love and betrayal, passion and loss in the heart of an alien land (a memoir of my time as a Muslimah and living in Iran for a year), written under my previous married name, Debra Kamza, and Dream Lover (a paranormal romance, the tale of witch that summons her favorite character out of a Bewitched spin-off and the actor who plays him as well). I'm constantly writing stories and poems, thoughts and dreams, and quite a few opinions - many of which are not popular but oh well. Bite me. I'm interested in art, animals, the paranormal, and people. I love to dance, all sorts, but have been studying belly dance since 2006 and LOVE it! I love anime too and love dressing up and going to conventions. My writing runs the gummut of historical, science fiction, fantasy, romance, and erotica. Beware: I may not be safe reading for work. Just saying....

Ooh, I would love some of those caramel-filled green apple wedges! I know what you mean about the pumpkin cheesecake. Some people would call it a waste of cheesecake. Everybody wants the ones I have already made, nothing new unless is it chocolate!! Pumpkin is one of those things you like or you don’t, no in-between.

  3. Glad you made it home safely, if delayed!!! You have me thinking next time I am actually with people for a meal, I’d like to make a pie pumpkin, stuffed with corn, beans and rice, maybe with white chicken meat and southwestern flavoring.

I’m tentatively planning a Halloween party too. I was getting a little stuck on themed food, but you’ve given me some great ideas to start with!

I’m very tempted to make a cranberry or black cherry Jello and dream-whip heart, the custard brain, and the white snake of whipped-cream frosted cocanut/almond cake with gummy eye-balls too, but unless I have a very large number of guests, it might end up going to waste. I’m anxious to hear what you’re planning too.

As you know I love FALL…the colors, foods, holidays, weather, etc! And I LOVE Halloween! Your party will be so cool! 🙂
Zucchini bread is a good way to use up some of the Summer zucchini that grew so well! I love making it and giving some away…or freezing some to eat later on.
    HUGS!!! 🙂
